Meat by Mail

It was a very exciting day at my house. I received this in the mail:

Box o' Meat

That is right a box chock full 'o meat! The packing list: a whole chicken, two huge pork chops, some sausage, a pork tenderloin, sliced ham, and a pound of ground beef. And what, gentle readers, did I do to receive such bounty? The meat came as a tantalizing gift from some friends who have gone into the natural meat business. Their ploy worked, as I will happily return as a paying customer.

I urge all of you, whenever the choice is possible, to support small family farms and ranches. With the agricultural industrial complex making a play for the organic food market and Whole Foods Inc. sprouting like mushrooms on the landscape, going local is more important than ever. Small is sustainable, good for the land, good for the animals, and good for you. I will step off my soap box now and go cook some meat.

OK, so the world just gets smaller. I clicked on the link because I know some Decks, and what do you know, it's John Deck. We went to high school together, same grade and all. I have sometimes wondered what he was up to. How funny!

what does himself make of all this meat? isn't he still content to get all his protein from cheese and legumes? and perhaps some cereals?

(still it warms my heart, my dad raised 5 children as a butcher!--and it still think meal planning starts with meat.)

This is for you, anyway. If you haven't already, please check out the outrageous story about Blue Moon Fiber Arts and their banking woes. See tsocktsarina.com's and yarnharlot.ca's blogs of January 11th. Tsock Tsarina has asked me to pass the word along to as many as possible, as others are doing. Thanks for your time.
By the way, great photos, and a really neat blog. I patronize Trader Joe's out here in southern California.
