My Favorite Cotton
Only another knitter could understand how I felt when I saw the ad in Interweave Knits that Mission Falls was bringing back its line of 1824 Cotton. This is my pin-up shot of a skein I bought today.

"Bought!" you collectively gasp, "I thought she swore off the stuff." Sly minx that I am, this falls under the buying-to-finish-a -project clause. I found the beginnings of this buried at the bottom of my knitting basket.

The inspiration wasn't Mason Dixon Knitting, but more circuitously, Nona's Gee's Bendification (if that is a word) of the humble Log Cabin. Isn't it fabulous? Keep clicking through the posts until you get to the delicious chocolate and robin's egg final draft.
Mine is more pedestrian, using up yarn - vintage 1824 cotton I'll have you know - left over from a baby blanket I made years ago, with some Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora added to the mix. I gave up on the short row construction; I have the sneaking suspicion that I do not really understand the concept. I do, I do. I have knit many a heel flap, but to my addled brain, it is like circular knitting, in many ways I understand the how, but am willing to take it more on faith rather than delve. I know I am asking for long explications on the finer points of the wrapping and the turning. But please, spare me. Let us just say I am still not fluent in the short row and leave it at that.

I am just about to start my Log Cabin in 1824 cotton, I had about 15 (lilac, pink, purple) that I had bought to knit a cardi (about a year ago) but changed my mind and decided after seeing Connie's Log Cabin on Pick Up Sticks. I ordered some more 1824 from her but she was limited in colours, on Tuesday Rams Wool had a 2 day sale, so I bought 1824 for the Log Cabin and Noro Kueryon to finish the Lizard from Knitty. (30% sale on all in stock merchandise). It should be here in about a week, both will be my big winter projects, in between socks.

Hi again. Love the 1824. I ran across it while searching for the 1824 wool and formed a firm resolve to get it for this summer.
I tried to send you something I found really funny, but I discovered you have no open Email. So should you find yourself able to use a good laugh, contact either Normaknits or the Tsarina.
I am also determined to finish up a few things after the scarves are fringed, but I seem to be dancing around doing even that. On the other hand, Norwegian sweaters, cutting and all, never intimidated me; but I was very young then, and very little did in such departments. Great sweater. Gorgeous. Wore it skiing once and fell and almost couldn't get back up, I had so much snow clinging to the wool. Warm, though. Would never have frozen to death in an avalanche. Suffocated, yes; starved, unlikely; but frozen, no.

I love your log cabin square and bet it feels great in the MF cotton. I'm still totally enamoured with the log cabin and have not yet gotten it out of my system -- such fun!
