Twelve Gifts of Handmade Part Four or Pimp My Nutcracker
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the fire with care,
and the nutcrackers were pimped with the utmost of flair.
You were waiting for it and here it is.
Needs:
Thrift store nutcracker
Acrylic paint
Tacky glue
Modge Podge
Glitter
Sequins
Trim
and fake fruit and all other gee gaws you might think of or come across
In order to modify your nutcracker, first remove the hair, beard and arms. Usually the arms are held on with a nail at the wrist and a peg at the shoulder and are easy to wiggle off.
To apply sequins or glitter, brush the tacky glue on and sprinkle on. Easy.
Here are some close-ups, the Mariachi Nutcracker was made by my friend Sara. I had the hat and she fantastically realized his suit. Maharajas and princes - we had ridiculous fun.
Merry Christmas everyone and to all a good night!

I love the idea of "pimping" the nutcrackers! I've got quite a few inexpensive ones and you've given me a way to give them new life! Great idea, Sonya! Happy New Year!

I painted craft store nutcrackers for my kids, but obviously I need to go back and get their glitter on! Those are great!
Merry Christmas, my friend!

Never did I think I'd see "pimp" and "nutcracker" in the same sentence. You rock, Sonya.

SUCH creativity! Such fun. And love the non-bomb final candle - so beautiful. I'm sure Bea would love to do that someday. Happy holidays to you. Hope you are feeling better.

I think the mariachi one is my favorite.
Wow! Mariachi has my name in it! Clearly that's the path I'm meant to take in life.
