Star Sighting or They don't shoot many movies in San Francisco

It's Sean Penn!

Here's a photo taken by Mr. Knitsonya, as I franticly repeated "That's Sean Penn! That's Sean Penn!" We live three blocks from Castro Street where the filming of the movie Milk, about San Francisco supervisor Harvey Milk is taking place. The crazy grin betrays my inability to keep my cool in the face of celebrity.

mims:

my friend Amy sat next to Francis McDormand at a fish place in tiburon last year and struck up a conversation with her not knowing it was her....they had a very nice chat about things to do in the bay area and good places to eat and it was only afterwards that her husband told her whom she was talking too. She thought she looked familiar but could not place her....

I love near celebrity stories like that....

i didn't peg you as someone who would get flustered in the proximity of a celeb.

is he the one in the brown suit?

I love that crazy grin!

you look so cute, though!

I'm betting that he's sitting in the doorway behind the placard wearing a sport coat. It even looks like he may be moustachioed?!

How did you recognize him? Without your guidance I would not have known him! So what happens when they're filming in a public area? Is this as close as you're allowed to the set?

SO COOL!!!
wow...i would have yelled out my car...
and Gus Van Sant toooo????
wow...
at first i couldn't tell which guys was Sean Penn but then i check the flickr group and the poster helped a lot. i hadn't seen him with such long hair and beardyness before. :o)
if you get any more good pics, please post them! elaine.

Wow, he has a lot of hair, hey?

This reminds me of the time when we were driving down Dolores (both the Hannahs and me) and we saw a film crew and thought OMG that looks like Steven Spielberg!

But sadly, in our case, it wasn't.

How exciting! Well spotted!

Terry Mason:

Boy, that is one HAPPY smile! It is nice to know that celebrities can really make people that excited and happy. You'd be a mess down here, though. Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Hollywood, even over the hill and into the Valley, and in the courts in Los Angeles. When you have grown up with them--school, work, classes, parties, out shopping, at 31 Flavors, at restaurants, etc.--it is usually pleasant, and sometimes interesting, but never euphoric. I'd bet Sean Penn would be delighted to have a copy of that photo of you. What a great compliment, to know that the mere sight of him on location could make a passing fan so happy. And, even better, how nice for you that you managed to get that shot to remember it by.

hey, I would have jumped out of the car!!!
