Twelve Gifts of Handmade Part Seven or A hat for a small person
Here is the only gift I knit this Christmas - a big change from previous years. We are big Miyazaki fans and so were the parents, though they hadn't seen My Neighbor Totoro. Had to remedy that!
The pattern is free from Hello Yarn. I used Plymouth Baby Alpaca DK with Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride and Cascade 220 for the big, buggy eyes. The only modification to the pattern: I cut some stabilizer to the shape of the ears and slipped them in before I finished the shaping.

That is brilliant. Ack! I must learn to knit! Someday. Probably not in 2008. I almost stenciled a totoro t-shirt for my nephew, but went with a giant squid instead. I may have to make that one for me.

TOTORO!!!
I think I'll watch that today. I just made a big batch of honey marshmallows. If I get up to the city soon, you'll get some. (I don't know how likely that is. Maybe I'll just plan on making some the next time I think about going up to the city.)

Love this hat! Kicking myslef for not buying the v. shabby Nutcracker I saw in a thrift store before Christmas having now seen yours. But I'm pretty sure that my husband will be only too willing to have a go at the pomegrantie liquor. Thanks for the inspiration and a very happy New Year to you and your family.

oh my this is fantastic!! If only me kids would keep their hat on. Or their jacket on. Or their socks on.
They'do go naked all the time if the weather and social conventions weren't an issue!
